Practice Profile
Ross Sharpe Architects was formed in 2000 and is based in the historic city of Bath. Our staff have a great interest in history and architectural philosophy as well as an excellent knowledge of vernacular building types in most parts of the country. Combined with a sensitive approach to contemporary design within historic context the practice has steadily grown in the type and value of projects undertaken.
The practice offers a full architectural design service from inception to practical completion, as well as offering tailor made flexible solutions where appropriate. Although the workload is predominantly
residential, including restoration and new build, the practice is becoming increasingly involved in mixed use regeneration projects within urban centres and on country estates. Our expertise and experience of
working within tight constraints on conservation areas has led to a number of high profile commissions.
We are almost always able to balance our clients’ ambition with the demands placed on us in respecting and responding to such sensitive settings.
Our projects can be divided into five categories;
1. Masterplanning and residential commissions of some scale within historic urban environments -
notably market or cathedral towns.
2. Masterplanning and Rural regeneration projects within historic country estate settings and within
significant groups of listed buildings, achieved in both traditional and contemporary ways.
3. Restoration and conversion of listed country houses and castles, mostly for residential use and
including major elements of new work in classical or contemporary idioms and usually within parkland settings.
4. One off new houses or significant extensions to historic houses for private individuals.
5. Competitions, consultancy and other architectural service.
